CISTERN TRUMPETS/FUNNELS
Cistern Trumpet/Funnels was created for the
2007 Collaborative Concepts Farm Project in
Garrison, New York. This site-specific
sculpture was created from a huge dry cistern.
Eight fiberglass forms modeled after
moisture-seeking Black Trumpet Mushrooms
were placed in regularly spaced vents on the
cistern. An MP3 player and speakers were
rigged-up inside the cistern to play a 1959
novelty song "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose
It's Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night." The
sound echoed through the chamber and was
transmitted eerily across the outside
landscape through the trumpets. These same
trumpets became funnels in the rain and
gathered water into the empty basin.
